Jamaica is South of Cuba and located in the Caribbean Sea. It is less than the size of Connecticut. It currently sits at 234km (145 miles) long and 80km (50 miles) wide.

- Jamaica has a varied topography with rugged mountains, where some are volcanic, have narrow alleys, and a coastal plain.
- It is located 145km (90 miles) south of Cuba and 161km (100 miles) west of Haiti.
- Jamaica’s climate is tropical, hot, and humid on the coast of the island.
- Jamaica’s physical features are mostly mountainous. A limestone plateau covers two-thirds of the island and karst formations with caverns and caves dominate the island.
- The central mountain chain formed by igneous and metamorphic rocks; the karst limestone hills in the Cockpit area; the low-lying coastal plains and interior valleys.
- Limestone formation occurs all over the island, but mostly in the western areas.
